I'd just say it's an internet must.
If there is anything you do online that you wouldn't want someone to know about, then VPN is crucial.
I cannot stress this enough. Get VPN, please.

Are you meeting providers where there is illegality? - this should always be a “no” I should hope.
Is there a possibility that home or work could view what you are viewing online and would there be consequences to that? - That seems more likely, depending on your circumstances.
